We welcome new players in our orchestra. Each season has a distinct repertoire culminating in a concert series, so the beginning of the season is the best time to join. Our new season begins in August 2011. Our theme is "Winter". It features music by the Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius, and Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg. We are adding the spritely "Winter Concerto" by Antonio Vivaldi, among others. See our repertoire page. To join the orchestra, you need to have good reading skills and technique that enables you to express the rhythm and mood of the music. All the orchestra members have taken lessons in some kind of classical music at some point in their lives. Potential new members are asked to contact the Artistic Director, Nicola Bocus, and may be asked to audition. Orchestral dues for the Fall-Winter 2011 dues are $150 (regular rate), $120 (low income, guitar, bass), or $90 (full-time student) payable in two installments. We rehearse in San Francisco, on a Sunday between 3 and 6 pm. Before you join the orchestra, you need to make sure that you are able to come to almost all of the rehearsals and are available for the concerts. You must also be able to communicate through email.
